Amstelveen, 2 oktober 2009 – James Bond, eat your heart out: LG Electronics lanceert de eerste mobiele telefoon in de vorm van een stijlvol kwaliteitshorloge. Voor het eerst is een dergelijk multifunctioneel horloge meer dan een futuristische gadget uit een Bond-film of Knightrider-aflevering. De LG Touch Watch Phone (GD910) biedt alles wat een mobiele telefoon vandaag de dag moet hebben, zoals een touchscreen, 3G-netwerkverbinding, spraakherkenning, mp3-speler, handsfree functie en Bluetooth. Dit alles in de vorm van een elegant en exclusief designhorloge waarvan slechts 150 exemplaren nog in 2009 op de Nederlandse markt komen.

“Onze Watch Phone is meer dan een prototype met een prijskaartje”, zegt Bas Tulner, Category Marketing Manager LG Mobile Benelux. “Deze gebruiksvriendelijke telefoon steekt op het gebied van stijl, comfort en robuustheid luxe horlogemerken naar de kroon. De Watch Phone is een sterk staaltje ontwerp en ontwikkeling. Met name de touchtechnologie is uniek op een horloge.”

LG Electronics (LG), a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, announced today that it has independently developed the first handset (user equipment) modem chip based on 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE)technology standards. The modem chip can theoretically support wireless download speeds of 100Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of 50Mbps. This represents a significant step toward creating a market-ready 4G phone.

The Modem Chip is the most crucial component required to create a viable 4G handset with LTE technology, the leading candidate to become the fourth generation mobile phone technology standard. LG demonstrated the chip today at its Mobile Communication Technology Research Lab in Anyang, Korea, achieving wireless download speeds of 60 Mbps and upload speeds of 20 Mbps. The fastest phones currently on the market use HSDPA technology and download at a maximum speed of 7.6 Mbps.
